The Action organised a thematic one-day session within the XI Workshop-Summer School 2026: Partial Differential Equations, Optimization, Numerics, and Machine Learning, held in Benasque, Spain. The session focused on the interactions between Mathematics, in particular Optimization and Control Theory, with Data Science and Machine Learning. Participants presented their original and recent results in the field. The presentations were followed by round-table discussions on the topics presented and on avenues for future research and cooperation.
The workshop itself is a well-established and renowned event held biennially. It brings together experts in control theory, optimization, numerical mathematics, and machine learning, and is therefore closely aligned with the scientific scope of the Action. The session was an opportunity to promote the InterCoML and to introduce its results and activities to a wider audience.
At the beginning of the session, the Action Chair, Martin Lazar, presented the Action, its objectives and opportunities, as well as the COST Association and its principles.
